Since I opened this program up to the public, I decided I probably should keep a changelog. I will post updates here as I update the system.
- Fixed line drawing math. Now multi-line links (e.g. Violence - Hostile) won't skew when changing directions at node points.
- Added Google and Apple login capability.
- Added additional export types (XML, PNG, JPG)
- Added Homegroup functionality.
Adding persons to a homegrown will draw a box around the persons. This can be used to indicate persons living together or individual "families". you can also link children paths to the group to indicate foster families.
- Added religeous symbols.
- Added GEDCOM import limiting.
You can import based on an origin person and generation count. This software was not designed to handle extremely large family trees as its primary purpose is for building genographs in the setting of counseling or therapy. Attempting large imports (1000s of people) will likely throw an error.
- Added anonymous genogram sharing.
In settings, if you mark your genogram as public (shareable without a login), you can also make it anonymous and the system will change all the genogram names to keep identifying information private.
- General Bug Cleanup.
- Relationship attributes now correctly import from GEDCOM files and display on genograms.
- Added parent-child line editing.
- Added the ability to set a custom color for relationship lines and also parent-child lines. This will overwrite the default color until you remove it by clicking the trash can icon.
- Added missing Miscarriage and Abortion symbols. Set them via the gender selection dropdown.
- Improved GEDCOM import support.
Added improved compatibility for GenoPro exported GEDCOMs to include GenoPro specific elements. It won't import exactly as it was in GenoPro due to system differences, but most of the data should be there for you to manipulate.
** If there is data missing from other GEDCOM sources, feel free to send me an example exported GEDCOM with the missing elements and I'll work to incorporate them.
- Working to fine tune the attribute styles
(Illness, smoker, health history, etc..) to better match common practice.
Due to how genograms were originally created by this software, previous genograms (Before March 18, 2026) will not show updated attribute styles. You can customize the attributes yourself under settings, or click the Reset to Defaults to re-sync your genogram with the updated system defaults, however, you will lose any attribute customizations you may have previously saved. Resetting will not affect your genogram itself, only the icon styling (color/pattern fills) for various attributes.
- Added option to show marriage/divorce date above relationship line on canvas. (turn on in relationship areas).
- Standardized date entry and added date picker to date fields.
- Fixed text box so new line (Enter) now properly starts a new line.
- Added bounding box with word wrap to text boxes.
- Added border and background styling to text boxes.
- Added border styling to shapes/polygons.
- Improved phone & tablet compatibility. Still a work in progress.
- Working on adding a selection system to select multiple items for bulk move/delete functions. Still buggy but you can hold down shift key to select individual persons/items, or hold down shift key and drag a selection box around items to select. The box drag feature is giving me issues and may not always select items. Try shift-click method for now.
- Fixed PDF/Image export legend symbols that I hadn't realized were no longer exporting correctly.
- Added PDF/Image export sizing options.
- Added collaboration capability. You can add additional genogram editors via the collaborators button in genogram menu. Only the owner can delete a genogram or make it public. The owner can transfer ownership to another collaborator.
- Updated overall site theme/style.
- Updated households feature to clean up add/edit area and allow searching for names in household list.
- Fixed bug where clicking a second person with edit panel open would copy the previous persons info into the newly selected person.
- Fixed potential for hidden empty text boxes. An empty box now shows temporary text, so you may see one pop up on your genogram if you've ever tried adding a text box.
- Text Boxes can now have an optional arrow pointing to a person or object. Set this in the text box edit window.
- New Feature: Groups. You can now create custom groups for highlighting specific people when a shape outline just doesn't work due to person placement. (To visually indicate ethnicity, income, occupation, etc...) You create the group type in the settings menu and then apply it to specific people in the person's edit window under Groups tab. See FAQ for more detail.
- Fixed bug with emotional line nodes. You can now delete line nodes by double clicking the node.
- Added Immigrant and Multi-Cultural symbols.
- Added Caregiver link type (under emotional links) with custom line pattern and colors.
- You can override some emotional link lines with custom colors.
- Added Secret symbol for relationships.
- You can optionally add directional arrows to all emotional links that normally don't have one.
- For Text Boxes: You can now have directional lines point toward an object OR toward the text box.
- Updated relationship lines so they stay horizontal. Moving a partner lower than the other partner will now keep everything symmetrical instead of skewing the line.
- Added ability to manually reposition midpoint line symbols. Just click and drag a symbol to move its position along the line. Works for relationship and emotional lines.
- Updated Genogram settings menu to improve the Icon text options (Text above/below person icon). Now allows more combinations and flexibility.
- Fixed GEDCOM importer that broke due to a recent schema change.
- Minor adjusting to various genogram text alignment and obstruction prevention.
- Added Larger person icon size option.
- You can now exclude a shape from showing in the Legend using checkbox in shape edit panel.
- Added basic support to import GedcomX and Gramps XML files using the Import GEDCOM button.
- Added basic text paste import option. You can paste CSV data or very simple text to import. Still testing so I cannot guarantee accuracy.
- Added a tutorial video to help give a quick overview of available features.
- Added additional Group option. You can now change the white background of the person symbol to use as a grouping type.
- Added icons to buttons to help with accessibility.
- Fixed issue where some shapes/text was clipped on export to image/PDF
- Fixed some specific workflow glitches where multiple toolbars would overlap.
- Working to organize and clean up the person edit panel layout.
- Added rounded corners option to textbox and shapes borders to create a cleaner look.
- Fixed GEDCOM export glitch that would sometimes export an empty DEATH value for every person which, on re-import, would mark everyone as deceased.
- Added text alignment option to Text Box.
- Fixed text box connector line spacing issue.
- Fixed textbox sizing bug where manually sizing a box would cause it to jump position or not show live sizing. Changed the way it calculates box position so this may cause existing boxes to shift slightly and need repositioning. This couldn't be helped but will be better going forward.
- Added rounded corners to relationship lines and emotional link lines. You can adjust this in your Genogram Settings.
- Added new Heritage feature. You can set up heritage types in genogram settings and then apply them to top level persons via their edit panel and have the system auto calculate the heritage percentages for children.
- Added font family option in settings.
- Fixed image export only showing Times font for text.
- Added socioeconomic (SES) symbol options to persons. Add/adjust in the person Edit > Details panel.
- Fixed bug where Heritage types disappeared from the legend when Show All was selected.
- Fixed bug where heritage fills inside person icon only showed for Male/Female genders.
- Fixed layout issue with exported legend.
- Added ability to adjust Age text formatting separatly from other text. This allows you to add/hide the text background just for the age number, if desired.
- Modified Household box draw logic to better encompass person icon text and handle offset household members. It now draws a polygram instead of a rectangle.
- Fixed forum bug preventing new posts. Sorry to those who might have tried to previously post in the forums.
- You can also send a direct help request email via the contact button at the top of help forums.
- Improved Shift-Click and Shift-Drag selection. Still a work in progress but it seems to be more reliable now.
- Added ability to bulk edit Persons and Shapes after multi-select. This allows you to apply formatting to multiple items at once.
** Please let me know if you have issues with either of these so I can continue to improve feature.
- Added simple guide for first-time users. Can be re-viewed using tips link in genogram menu.
- Tweaked emotional link line arrow connectors so they draw a bit cleaner.
- Modified emotional link lines with symbols (Love, Cutoff, etc..) to repeat the symbol at regular intervals on longer lines. Each symbol is still manually adjustable so you can drag it to a preferred location along the line.
- Added a symbol reset button in Emotional Link edit panel to reset symbol positions back to auto.
- Improved export functionality.
- Improved legend in exported documents.
- Improved on-screen legend alignment.
